Social Media Renegades
share content with other business owners without having to play to the algorithm
Social Media Renegades is a community group for business owners who create content and want to be able to have conversations on topics they care about.
You can share blog posts, podcasts, and videos, or just write something you want to share.
How it works
It’s a bit like a Facebook group and an old-fashioned message board.
Choose the topic channels that interest you. They represent types of businesses, yours might fall in more than one category, or you might want to explore conversations on other subjects.
You can share links but sales posts are restricted to the Sales channel so we don’t end up in the worst kind of networking event where everyone just thrusts their business card at you.
There’s a forum where you can ask questions if you want to tap into everyone’s knowledge. There’s also a live room where you can have audio or video calls.

What are the benefits?
Here are 5 reasons to join us:
- You can share links to your content without them being hidden by an algorithm
- There’s no performative posting because you’re not trying to get an algorithm to show your post to more people – it exists in the feed and people can scroll through.
- You can have genuine conversations about issues that matter to you and share your knowledge and expertise.
- There are opportunities for live networking so if you’d like some human interaction in your day you can speak to anyone else online in the group.
- Your blog posts / podcasts / videos can go in the Social Media Renegades email newsletter, widening your reach.

Who is running this?
Hi, I’m Rachel Extance, I’m a blogger and I run a public affairs communications and copywriting business.
Social media is changing. It’s getting harder to get your content seen, while platforms make moves to get you to engage more, spending more time there. That means you’re building their business, not yours.
I wanted to create a place where people could have genuine conversations about issues that matter to them and share their expertise, without trying to meet the requirements of an algorithm.
